Our Spring Bazaar and Silent Auction are Back!

Minyo-Kai Dance Group

Minyo-Kai is a traditional Japanese folk-dance group that performs occasionally at local community events. They meet twice per month on Sundays from 2 pm at the Takahashi Dojo (5 Melrose Avenue). 

They will be selling the following items at the Bazaar:

Inari Sushi (seasoned sushi rice stuffed inside sweet fried tofu pouches)

Calling all creatives within our community – Natsu Matsuri 2026 Poster Contest

We are once again organizing Natsu Matsuri this year and this time, we want YOUR help!

We want to take this opportunity to highlight our community’s talent and so, have decided to host a Natsu Matsuri poster contest!


As 2026 is the Ottawa Japanese Community Association’s 50th anniversary, the theme for the poster is “Celebrating our Community“!

Entry is very easy:

2. Submit your entry via the form by May 4, 2026 @ NOON

3. Wait for the results! 

This winning poster will be the face of Natsu Matsuri 2026 and will be used throughout the festival. 
While open to all, submissions that reflect a connection to Japanese heritage or culture will be given favourable consideration in judging.
Open to all ages! (Parent/Guardian permission required for entrants under 19).

3 ways Kimono Cards – OJCC workshop

Join us for a workshop on making three types of kimono cards, led by instructor Nora Nishikawa.

Date: Sunday, February 8 (in case of inclement weather, the workshop will be held on February 15th instead.)

Time: 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM.

Place: Ottawa Japanese Cultural Centre

Cards made will be available for sale to all participants. OJCA-OJCC members receive a discount.

Light refreshments will be provided.

OJCC Grand Re-opening and Annual General Meetings

We are delighted to bring you news of the Grand Re-opening of the Ottawa Japanese Cultural Centre!

Did you know at the OJCC we have a children’s play group, traditional and folk dance classes, ikebana and shodō, tea study group, Tomonokai seniors’ club, cooking classes and craft workshops? Come drop by anytime from 1pm – 4pm to see and sign up for all the activities these groups have planned at the Centre this year! Then enjoy some refreshments.

Annual General Meeting

Likewise, every autumn ushers in another Annual General Meeting for both the OJCA and OJCC.

This year’s AGM is set for Sunday, October 19th from 1-4pm.

This year, the OJCA’s AGM will go first, followed by a delicious potluck snack break, and then the OJCC’s AGM will close out the day’s activities. Members-in-good-standing are welcome to attend both or either AGM and to vote on any motions put forward, as well as the 2025-2026 Boards.
