An evening of intercultural performance hosted by Ottawa’s Japanese cultural community

After a pandemic pause, the signature event of Ottawa’s Japanese cultural community is back and bigger than ever!

Building bridges across communities, Tomoni pairs Japanese cultural performance groups with local non-Japanese artists. Expect the unexpected and enjoy beautiful new harmonies between artists!

Curator and producer Matt Miwa has created unique artistic pairings that cross traditions, disciplines and approaches to art-making. Tomoni features these collaborative performances:

Drumming groups Oto-wa Taiko and Spirit Wolf Singers

Japanese folk dancing group Minyo-Kai and musician Zach Perron

Japanese women’s choir Melody of Japan and floral designers from Scrim’s Florist

Japanese archery group Ottawa Kyudo Association and local dancers

Other performers include Ottawa Yosakoi, Bonnie Doon, Melisa Kamibayashi-Staples and more!

Thank you: Tomoni is generously supported by the Ottawa Japanese Community Association, the Embassy of Japan in Canada, the Ottawa Community Foundation and the Ontario Arts Council.
